Canberra's newest eyesore

2004 NSW Commission of Inquiry (Environment and Planning NSW) into a proposed gas-fired power station at Uranquinty near Wagga Wagga found that the development had key negative environmental planning aspects:

- “Residual visual amenity impacts would occur and are likely to be significant at some surrounding properties despite extensive vegetation planting and landscaping due to the height and bulk of the power station structures and the local topography; and

There is significant ongoing public concern that the proposed development would be inconsistent with the nature of the local area, and as a result would negatively affect perceptions of Uranquinty”

- The commission recommended against the development. This was later overturned by the NSW Premier Mr Bob Carr.
